NUTRITION

You have to pay more care and attention to what you eat.

Great physiques are not built on a diet of fast foods or junk foods.

Contrary to what you might think, the wrong type of carbohydrates and not fats are the main culprits. {Although of course you must not eat an excess amount of fats}

The wrong type of carbohydrates, ie. those with a high glycemic index, are mostly responsible for depositing an excess layer of fat on your body, thus stopping you from achieving those great stomach muscles.

High glycemic carbohydrates are carbs that the body metabolizes and assimilates rapidly , i.e cookies, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, foods with a high sugar content, french fries, processed white rice, {ever wondered why you are hungry again within an hour or so of eating a Chinese take away meal} foods made from highly processed white flour, etc.

Sodas and other sugar laden soft drinks and beers are also deadly to your quest to lose belly fat and attain chiseled 6 pack abs.

It is important that your diet is made up primarily of nutritious foods in their natural form and you stay clear or minimize your intake of processed and packaged foods.

Do not be fooled by cleverly packaged foods that claim to be healthy, fat free or fat reduced.

Sure, they may be low on fat but they are equally high in sugar, cheap corn syrup and a host of other ingredients {chemicals} which most of us cannot even pronounce!

You cannot go wrong if you stay with foods that have only one ingredient , i.e oats instead of some gaudily packaged breakfast cereal that claims to be the 'breakfast of champions.'

Whole grain rice instead of some brightly packaged, highly processed flavored rice.

FAT LOSS & CARDIO

Cardio vascular exercise works in conjunction with good and sensible nutrition in helping you lose body fat so the underlying ab muscles can show through.

The amount of cardio work you do should not be excessive especially if you are trying to build muscle.

Excessive cardio is extremely detrimental to building muscle. Hell, you do not want to end up looking like a long distant runner.

The whole idea is to build a lean muscular physique with chiseled 6 pack abs, not to look like an emaciated, stringy muscled marathon runner.

Another reason you do not want to lose muscle is because increased lean muscle tissue helps to permanently elevate your resting metabolic rate, which in turn increases your ability to burn fat. To lose that belly fat and attain chiseled 6 pack abs to die for.

ABDOMINAL EXERCISES

In order to achieve those 6 pack abs to die for, it is important that you have an understanding of the role the abdominal muscles play in the body.

The abs are the main stabilizing muscles in the body and are very important core muscles.

Hence, your abs work and are exercised the best when you do whole body movements or compound exercises, i.e squats, jumping jacks, squat thrusts, push ups, etc

If you don't provide your body with frequent doses of protein then it is likely to go into a catabolic state (negative nitrogen balance), whereby your body breaks down more body tissue (protein) than it builds up. Probably the easiest way to ensure you get protein in each of your 5 meals each day is to add some nuts or LSA (linseeds, sunflower seeds, almonds) mix to your cereal or have an egg on toast for breakfast.

For lunch and dinner have about 100 grams (about the size of a deck of cards) of fish, chicken or lean steak with vegetables or salad. For your mid-morning and mid-afternoon meals have a protein shake perhaps with a piece of fruit.

By making this one small change to your diet, a slightly higher protein intake and slightly lower carbohydrate and fat intake, your body composition will automatically change.

The next area you need to consider for getting rid of cellulite is exercise. One of the most overlooked ways to tone up and/ or lose fat is resistance (weight) training. Many people mistakenly believe that weight training will bulk them up. Whilst it is possible to 'bulk up' if you eat too much food, if you control your food intake it will not occur. Plus, it is actually quite difficult for women to increase their muscle mass, for a variety of reasons.

By performing weight training you will maintain or slightly increase your muscle mass, which will not only assist your toning efforts but it will also boost your metabolism dramatically (muscle is the most metabolically-active tissue in the body), which will speed up the fat-burning process in your body. This will help get rid of cellulite.

The other major benefit weight training provides is that it has been proven to prevent osteoporosis by forcing your body to make your bones thicker and stronger.

For best results, select 5 of the following exercises and perform 2-3 sets of high reps (25-30 reps per set) per workout: squat, lunge, step-up, hip extension, leg extension, leg curl, stiff-leg deadlift, leg press, standing calf raise and seated calf raise. Perform the workout twice a week with at least 2 days rest in between each workout. This workout should be done in addition to other exercises for other body parts as well. [NOTE: Always employ the services of a personal trainer to learn how to perform the exercises correctly.]

The other type of exercise that is beneficial for getting rid of cellulite is aerobic (cardiorespiratory) exercise. The main benefit of aerobic exercise is that it increases calorie (energy) expenditure, which means you can burn fat faster. It may have some very mild muscle-stimulating effects as well but no where near as much as weight training.

To get the best fat-burning effects from aerobic exercise, perform at least 20-40 minutes every day. If you can't perform it every day then at least 5 days a week. It is important to select the type of aerobic exercise you enjoy and that you can see yourself performing long term; it must suit you and your lifestyle. The following exercise types are great options: walking, jogging, boxing, swimming, rowing, cycling, aerobic classes, stepping machines and cross trainers.

To enhance the fat-burning benefits even further, take a thermogenic before the session. A thermogenic will give you an energy boost, which will help you work harder during the session. It will also force your body to release stored fat into the bloodstream, which then may be used by your working muscles as fuel.

Grind yellow mustard in milk and apply to the face during the night. Wash your face the next morning. Onions also can be used for removing freckles and age spots. Slice a red onion in half and rub on the spots twice daily. Continue until the spots fade.

Make sure you wear sunscreen when you step out and protect your skin from the sun as far as possible by wearing a hat or a scarf. These marks could be freckles, and freckles are often permanent.

French women seem to enjoy breads, desserts, and wine, but then don't gain the weight. American women, on the other hand, just think about snacking and magically put on ten pounds. In her bestselling book, French Women Don't Get Fat : The Secret of Eating For Pleasure, Mirelle Guiliano reveals the secrets that French women have at staying healthy and trim.

French Women Don't Get Fat begins with the account of the author, Mirelle Guiliano, growing up in France. By a stroke of luck she was sent to America in her teenage years as an exchange student. In America, she was introduced to brownies and cookies - which quickly became favorites. In no time at all, Mirelle put on twenty pounds. When it was time to return home she was a little nervous about what her family and friends would think of the "new" Mirelle. The story of seeing her family for the first time after being away is funny and heart wrenching at the same time. I can't do justice to this story, so I would recommend buying the book and reading it on your own. Later, her mother set up a secret meeting with their family physician, "Dr. Miracle", who helped her to shed the extra pounds, and more importantly, taught her how to live like a French Woman.

This book is not a miracle diet. In fact, French Women Don't Get Fat isn't a "diet" book at all. What it does is suggest ways to help you live a balanced, healthier lifestyle. The first thing the book suggests is to take an inventory of what you eat for a couple of weeks. By looking at your food journal, you should be able to see what your "offenders" are - meaning what foods you are overeating. For example, Mirelle's offenders were sweets. Once you recognize what foods you are eating out of balance, your next step is to identify why you overeat in this category. For example, if your "offender" is bread, you might notice that you are eating a lot of bread when you go to restaurants. You could then decide to only have one slice before your meal comes. The book also discusses changing the way you think. You aren't skimping on the bread because you are depriving yourself something you love, you are merely saving room for other things. The pleasure of most foods is in the first few bites, as French Women Don't Get Fat points out. After that we are just eating on autopilot. If you can avoid eating without thinking, you can avoid eating excess food. French women eat with their heads and do not leave the table feeling stuffed or guilty.

Another secret of the French this book points to is drinking more water. We all know that water is good for us, but how many of us really drink as much as we should? The secret is to add water to your daily routine. Drink a glass of water before you eat your breakfast. Once you have established this as part of your routine, then add another glass before going to bed. French Women Don't Get Fat reminds us that sleeping is a very dehydrating process. When both of these are routine, make it a habit to drink water each time you pass a water fountain. French women drink water all throughout the day.

Once you are drinking more water, you will probably feel healthier than ever. Since water has no calories, no preservatives, and nothing extra added, you might find that you are interested in the ingredients of the other foods you are consuming. Have you ever read the list of ingredients in a frozen dinner? What is all of that stuff? Why are we consuming things we can't even pronounce? Another key to eating like the French is what the author of this book calls "Ritual Preparation." While she lived at home, Mireille's mother prepared almost all of the food that she consumed. None of it was filled with preservatives, and most everything was fresh. French Women Don't Get Fat recommends going to the market several times a week, and selecting the freshest ingredients. By market the book is referring to a farmers market, and not the supermarket. Quality ingredients equal quality food. When you are eating quality, you won't need the quantity to make up for the lack of taste. Also, set the table like you would find at a restaurant - real napkins even. The extra attention to details will help you remember to savor your food. Also, sit down as a family, and turn off the television. Make meal time a ritual.

According to this book, you also need to move like a French woman. We aren't talking about hours of grueling exercise at the gym. What we are talking about is adding more movement to your daily routine. Walk to work, or if you work too far, then get off the train one stop early and walk the rest of the way to work. Or, add in a daily walk before eating breakfast. Take the stairs instead of the elevator when possible. French Women Don't Get Fat advised to not avoid precious steps: think of ways to add in more movement to your daily routine.

This book also includes recipes for foods such as Grilled Spring Lamb Shops, Asparagus Flan, Cauliflower Gratin, Grilled Chicken with Rosemary, Egg Omelet with Mixed Herbs and Ricotta Cheese, among many others. Since the French enjoy bread so much, recipes for Baguettes and Croissants are included too. The book has menu ideas as well.

If you need a good book to inspire you to lose a little weight so that you feel good about yourself, then French Women Don't Get Fat is where you should turn. Because the focus of this book is not about depriving yourself of good things, but about making focused choices to help you accomplish something even better, you will be motivated to change a few of your bad habits into good habits - and therefore live a more fulfilled and slimmer life.

The challenge of eating a nutrient dense, low calorie diet
that promotes healthy weight and optimal fitness - while at
the same time trying to keep daily caloric intake at
appropriate levels for one's goals (usually fat/weight
loss) can be one the most difficult juggling acts to
master. In working with many clients with various daily
habits and patterns - I've realized that a good number of
people can benefit from "shifting their calories" instead
of just counting calories, to accomplish healthy nutrition
and weight management.

Depending on the time you wake up in the morning - starting
your day with breakfast may not be the ideal way to kick
off the fulfillment of your daily nutritional needs. Now, I
know this goes against traditional advice, but read on to
fully understand this approach as it applies to counting
calories.

I've worked with clients in the past who have tried to eat
breakfast (in many forms and variations) first thing in the
morning, and they would find that doing this made them
hungrier the rest of the day and it usually led to
increased daily caloric intake - enough to cause long term
weight gain.

There are some people who wake up relatively early and
start the day with breakfast and continue to eat relatively
well throughout the day. Often, these types of people,
although eating healthy foods, are taking in too many
calories in the span of a whole day and either have trouble
losing weight or continue to gain weight.

Now, for the caloric shifting part. We will talk about meal
shifting (instead of calorie shifting) to keep matters
simple - but understand, a meal is made up of calories.

A simple strategy for those who find that keeping a lid on
daily caloric intake is a challenge - is to push back the
time that the first meal is eaten. Lets call this meal
breakfast, even though some people may find it strange to
call a meal eaten at 10:30 or 11 am, breakfast.

So, instead of eating your normal breakfast at 6:30 or 8
am, you don't skip it, you just push it back a few hours -
toward your normal lunch time. In effect, you are moving,
most likely, 300 - 500 (maybe more) calories and taking
them in at a later time, maybe 3 or 4 hours later than
normal.

Here is what happens to most people who I coach with this
method. They find they are not starving for a big lunch
(which also gets pushed back a few hours - to about 2pm
(give or take 30 minutes). Additionally, they are not
ravenous by dinner time, when most people self destruct and
do so until bedtime, by snacking after dinner.

So, a result of this meal shifting is a reduction in
'overactive appetite' - not a bad reduction, but a healthy
reduction - one that is very helpful in preventing one from
over-stuffing the stomach and going beyond their daily
caloric needs.

Lets back up a little - if dinner time food raids are a
challenge, then this meal shifting can help you reduce that
eating urge after work and put you in a better position to
control the volume of food you put on your plate and the
number of calories you put in your body.

So, 'the calorie shift' is also helpful for people who
snack every few hours once they do start eating. By
delaying when you start eating in the morning - you also
delay the snack intervals you enjoy - and in effect you may
reduce your total daily snacks to 2 or 3 instead of 5 or 6
(including your after dinner snack). When all is said and
done, by days end you will have taken in less calories than
you would have, had you started with an early breakfast.

Common 'side effects' of this strategy are increased
energy, less bloating and stomach discomfort, better sleep
patterns and a few others. Hmmm - I wonder why?

There are several factors inside of this calorie based
fat-loss strategy to be aware of. The types of foods you
choose, the volume of foods you choose and the realization
that you need less calories than you think you do to
function optimally on a day to day basis.

I also realize that this may go against the "You'll shut
down your metabolism, by starving yourself!" crowd. But
believe me, this is far from starving yourself, very far. I
tell you this firsthand, because it's how I've helped many
people take control of their, nutrition, body weight and
fitness - and it's how I manage my own daily nutrition and
my metabolism keeps burning right along. Most importantly -
it's something you can do too.

Chili peppers are a great spicy food to eat and keep those pesky bugs away. Cooked, raw, or in salads, they can be ingested in any form. Just make sure you eat some of them every day.

Beer - nobody knows why, but seems like mosquitoes enjoy beer as well; Actually, they are more likely to bite you if you have any kind of alcohol in your system, not just beer. Be careful with the summer parties.
Salty Foods - produces lactic acid, which attracts mosquitoes;
Sweet / Sugary Foods - high sugar content makes our skin sweeter and more attractive to mosquitoes.

So here you are, embarking on the journey towards the most important day of your life - your wedding day. It is likely that, from the minute you get engaged, planning your wedding may consume your life, in a good way of course! The venue, the dress, the honeymoon, the guest list, the invites, and last but absolutely by no means least - the catering.

There is no doubt that one of the most crucial parts of the day is the wedding food. Lunch or dinner, budget or expensive, the wedding breakfast (as it is traditionally called) is immensely important. It may be fish and chips from a seaside van for 20 guests, a hog roast in a field for 100, or a sumptuous five course banquet in a palace for 500, but whichever it is, the food really matters.

Most couples are faced with a dizzying array of caterers. And choices. But many of the catering decisions are effected by the theme and style of your day. Informal and laid back? A barbecue in the garden maybe. Formal and elegant? A silver service three course dinner. Either way, the meal is the part of the day where all your guests, young and old, and from both families - bride's and groom's - will sit down, relax, chat and eat together. When I delve further into their eating habits to determine the cause of their problem, nine times out of ten I find their symptoms tied to gluten sensitivity.

What is gluten sensitivity and how do you know if you have it? If you are asking yourself this question, you are not alone. Let me explain.

Gluten is a family of proteins found in wheat along with oats, rye, and barley. Gluten sensitivity is caused by an immune reaction to the gluten. A simple blood test can determine whether you have specific antibodies to gluten. An inherited form of gluten sensitivity is called Celiac Disease and can affect 1 out of 133 people. Celiac Disease is often diagnosed by a biopsy of the small intestine that may reveal physical damage. Other forms of gluten sensitivity or allergy can develop as people grow older.

Feedback is the Breakfast of Champions - Miss Breakfast at Your Peril!

Feedback is defined as:

the return of feelings, information, changes, results etc. to the stimulus that caused them so that learning can occur and improvements can be made

It is a powerful self improvement process that requires effective communication skills and will be enhanced by positive thinking. The two key criteria are that feedback must help the receiver (and giver) to improve achievement and to learn for personal growth. Feedback that does NOT contribute to this is not valid.

Why bother?:

* feedback is the breakfast of champions - we know in sport, for example, that world and olympic champions invest heavily in coaching and training and learning. WHY?, because it works, the use of feedback delivers results

* our past is not our potential - our past is our past and if we learn from it we can release and realise more of our potential (and avoid simply repeating our mistakes)

* feedback creates more choices, and opportunities to influence, for us and others

* it is both necessary and inevitable - could a child ever mature into an adult without it? could we survive without it?

* it builds trust and respect and stronger relationships - depending on how it is done, of course (please see below)

* it facilitates learning and development and, therefore, self help self improvement and success

* it helps us to expand our comfort zone and, whilst this may feel uncomfortable in the short run, it is critical for our longer term future

* it is done anyway - everyone you know, and have a relationship with, has an opinion about you (just as you have an opinion about them). You can't stop this happening so the smart thing to do is to share the opinions constructively so that all of the above benefits can be achieved.

In particular, pay attention to the following 6 key points about giving and receiving feedback:

1. The power and control rests with the receiver

How the giver shares views is important, of course, but, when the receiver is truly focused on learning, there can be no such thing as a negative process or experience.

2. Feedback makes explicit what was already in people's minds

Whilst perceptions stay unshared inside people's heads, they are of no value to the receiver and can't be used for learning and self improvement (even though they will be affecting the giver's attitude and behaviour). The smart thing to do is to make them explicit so that they can be explored and stimulate beneficial change.

3. Both giver and receiver must commit to make the feedback process positive

In practice, this means using the GOLDEN TRIANGLE of COMMUNICATIONS - i.e. listening, asking and summarising. As all shared views are subjective, and about perceptions (not absolutes), both giver and receiver must ensure that they are:

* hearable

that is, specific, not global; situational, not absolute

* useable

that is, timely, not delayed; a useful amount, not too much

* testable

that is, descriptive, not judgemental or an assumed, "why?"

* owned

that is, feedback is shared to make a difference, not to "win"; and belongs to the giver and receiver, not a third party

4. It is really about the future

Although it is called feedBACK, and often refers to the past, it cannot alter what was. It's real value lies in enabling the receiver (and the giver) to make different choices about tomorrow (e.g. in terms of learning, achievement and personal development).

5. It may engender (short term) discomfort

Encouraging learning and challenge, may move people out of their comfort zones, of course. What does that feel like? Uncomfortable. Learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, it usually means that learning, growth and self improvement are taking place.

6. It requires a balance of high support and high challenge

Simply dumping opinions (and prejudices) and walking away is not good enough, it is not feedback. Simply rejecting others' perceptions or being defensive or in denial or retaliating is not acceptable, it is not feedback.

Honestly sharing perceptions, openly questioning for learning, seeking different choices for the future together, thinking differently as a result and deciding together how to change (and then helping each other to do it) IS feedback and is where the real, powerful benefits are.

The key is to GO AND SEEK others' views - for the receiver to be proactive.

In summary, feedback is inevitable and necessary and is, therefore, always done (inside people's heads). It has massive benefits for the receiver (and giver) which can only be achieved by making feedback explicit. This is often sabotaged by putting the onus for success in the wrong place - with the giver. When the RECEIVER takes ownership for, and control of, the feedback process, most of the difficulties people have with the process disappear.
To avoid or to deny feedback is to miss breakfast. It is to squander the opportunity to invest in achieving the future of your choice which I believe is the fundamental purpose of self improvement. Feedback is a gift and it is just waiting there for you to collect. Get hungry and go get breakfast - every day.

If you suffer from a fatty liver there's a few things you should know about using a fatty liver diet as a way to reduce liver fat and improve liver health.

Fatty liver diets should not be thought of as an all-in-one solution to fatty liver disease.

If you've been diagnosed with FLD and are now wondering what foods you can eat, then keep in mind the answer may depend on other factors and conditions. For example:

1.) Is your FLD alcoholic (AFL) or non-alcoholic (NAFLD)?

2.) Are you overweight and/or obese?

3.) Are other medical conditions contributing to the fatty liver symptoms you're experiencing? These might include things like diabetes mellitus (type II diabetes), hypertension, or metabolic disorders.

4.) Do you have any food allergies that may limit what you can eat?

Answers to these questions can help identify the right solution to your own particular problem. With that being said, there are a few commonalities to consider when selecting a diet plan for fatty liver.

Diet and exercise aimed at weight reduction have been proven time and time again as the most effective treatment for reducing fat in the liver. This is true for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver patients. The main difference is patients with AFL must have much stricter regulations on alcohol consumption than those with NAFLD.

A main cause of fatty liver disease is eating a diet consisting of high fat foods. Therefore, these foods, particularly those high in saturated fats, should be greatly reduced.

It is recommended for fats to make up no more than 30% of the daily caloric intake for FLD patients. Overall calories should also be reduced to the 1200 to 1500 per day range.

The good news is you won't have to completely give up a lot of the foods you love.

You'll just have to become more conscious of exactly what you're eating and how much of it. Balance, moderation, and regulation are the key. There are plenty of delicious fatty liver diet recipes out there if you know where to look.

Along with reducing fatty foods, increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables. Of course this doesn't mean making yourself a salad and then topping it off with a gallon of salad dressing.

Salad dressings and other high fat condiments should be used sparingly. There are always low-fat and non-fat alternatives.

The best liver friendly fruits and vegetables are greens, leaves, legumes, and fruits high in vitamin C. Fruits and vegetables are often rich in antioxidants which protect and repair hepatocytes (liver cells) and are also rich in folate (folic acid).
